frequently asked hair extension questions...

|
|
What's the
difference
between the
'Synthetic
Fibre' and
natural 'Human
Hair'
Extensions?
|
Synthetic Fibre
hairextensions
are particularly
suitable for
thin, fine or
fragile hair, as
it is lighter in
weight than
normal human
hair. It's also
more suitable
for avant-garde
work, such as
plaits and
dreadlocks. The
colour range
available allows
us to create
stunning streaks
of vibrant
colour, or an
exact match with
your natural
hair.
100% Human Hair
extensions can
create a totally
seamless and
natural blend
with your own
hair when
creating styles
with length,
volume or curl.
Whilst human
hair extensions
are at least 30%
more expensive
than synthetic
hair, quite
often the hair
can be re-used
or re-styled
after a 2-3
month period of
natural hair
growth. Your
Stylist will
advise you as to
whether this is
possible with
your chosen
style. Also
human hair is
available in
regular or
premium quality,
depending on
it's original
source.
|
How are the
Extensions
attached to my
own hair?
|
With synthetic
extensions, a
small section of
your own hair is
weaved together
with the Fibre,
then a plastic
ring seal is
created using a
small amount of
heat - this
process means
your own hair is
not touched or
harmed in any
way.
Human Hair
extensions are
securely sealed
into place using
a specially
formulated
plastic resin
seal about 1cm
from the root
area. As with
Fibre extensions
your own hair is
not harmed in
any way.
Both systems can
easily be
removed; fibre
extensions by
simply
fracturing the
small plastic
heat seals, and
human extensions
by using special
acetone based
removal
solution.
|
How long will my
Extensions last?
|
This will depend
partly upon the
style chosen.
Natural hair
growth will
continue as
normal
(approximately
1cm per month),
so for natural
looking styles
we recommend
removal after
three to four
months. However,
some styles just
require a visit
to the salon
every four to
six weeks for a
couple of hours
worth of
restyling.
|
Will the
Extensions
easily fall out?
|
NO! But over the
life of the
extensions
(three to four
months), a few
individual
extensions will
come out. This
is quite normal
and won't affect
the finished
look (a full
head of
extensions
usually involves
attaching more
than 200 small
sections!). If
at any stage you
are worried
please just call
us for advice.
However to
ensure no
disasters, be
sure to follow
our 'Important
Do's & Don't'
information.
|
Will the
Extensions
damage my own
hair?
|
NO! (At least
not if you go to
an experienced
stylist at a
reputable
salon). Whether
synthetic fibre
or human hair
extensions are
chosen, neither
system will
degrade the
quality of you
own hair. Your
own hair
continues to
grow as normal.
Clients who wish
to have
extensions to
improve fine or
thinning hair,
we'd recommend
start to use
NIOXIN
products to
improve the
quality of their
own hair growth
whilst wearing
the extensions.

Synthetic Extensions...
|
|
|
Our synthetic Balmain hair extension fibre is of the highest quality and
widest range of
colours.
We always use synthetic fibre for creating extension dreadlocks, plaits
and braiding, and its also perfect for 'fantasy' colouring.
Completed synthetic extensions are extremely light on the scalp. The
extension should normally last about 3 months before removal, which can
be done in the salon or at home after advice from your Stylist.

Human Hair Extensions...
|
|
|
Firstly, we'd better explain where all this human hair
comes from (and don't worry, there's nothing morbid about it!).
Most hair used for extension work comes from Asian countries, China and
India. But there are lots of different methods of collecting it - and
these methods affect the quality and price of the hair.
|
|
The majority of hair used for extensions is collected
after brushing, this is sometimes described as fallen hair. Believe it
or not, but millions of ladies throughout Asia do this on a daily basis,
and it's a quite traditional and normal thing to do. This type of hair
requires an initial chemical process to stop the hair tangling, as it's
impossible to tell with fallen hair which way the cuticle is lying (ie.
is it the top, or is it the bottom?!). If hair was not processed then
adjacent cuticles facing in opposite directions would tangle when combed
or brushed. This first process also evens out any differences inherent
because the hair will come from different sources (different people). It
then gets a secondary chemical process in the re-colouring of the hair.
The end result of this is good quality hair which is used in the majority
of salons around the world for hair extensions, wigs and clip-ons. There
is nothing wrong with this, and the hair produces great quality results.
However, there is a better method for collecting human hair, though as
with most things in life, that also means it's more expensive!

This premium type of hair is described as
Remy hair
, and is from India.
Indian hair is much closer in structure to European hair due to its same
genetic origin (Chinese hair for example is about 30% thicker), and
Indian women almost never go to salons to have chemical processes of any
kind, so the hair has a natural softness akin to European virgin hair.
Remy hair is almost always collected at Temples. Indian women cut
their hair as an offering to their God. This practice is a very ancient
tradition and has deep connection in Indian religion and philosophy.
They consider their hair as their pride and take meticulous care of it.
Hair to an Indian woman is a symbol of beauty and honour. The whole idea
of cutting at temples and the reason for offering hair to the God is
that they are willing to sacrifice their beauty by removing their hair -
which is their most valuable and treasured belonging.

).
Collecting and using this Remy hair in extension work solves a number of
problems. The cuticle layer of this hair is still perfectly healthy and
intact since, as mentioned, Indian girls rarely visit hair salons to get
chemical treatments, and by weaving the hair into a plait before cutting
ensures that it is all still aligned in one direction. The hair is also
homogeneous in colour and thickness and from a single source. The hair
still requires re-colouring to match a clients chosen colour, but the
initial quality of hair means this colour will take much, much better
and give even and consistent results.
At Venus we can use either type of hair - 'regular' or 'premium' (Remy) -
the choice is yours. But don't feel that you'll get inferior results
with normal extension hair. To a third party, visually, it is almost
impossible to tell the difference. Most of the difference will be
noticed only by yourself, in the ease of styling and quality of touch.
Also Remy hair may last a little longer and is often suitable for re-use
after being removed. Please see our
price list for the different costs.

Any Questions?!...
|
|
We know there's bound to be! The 'frequently asked
questions' above are just a few of the things that crop up during a hair
extension consultation, and we're sure if you're interested you'll have
many more.
But don't worry as our consultations are always free, and we take as long
as you like to go through any concerns you might have.
Due to this, it's normally best to phone and book a convenient time for
your consultation, and why not try find a photo or clipping of the style
you have in mind as this will ensure both you and our experienced
Extension Stylist are on the same 'wavelength'.
